Window Tinting & Films

Tinting your windows can be the answer you’ve been searching for to increase the comfort in your home. Windows account for up to 70 percent of cooling and heating costs and they are the easiest way for energy to transfer in and out of your home.

Whether you’re trying to regulate the temperature in your enclosed balcony, reduce solar heat gain and glare in your living room or increase your daytime privacy from neighbours, we’ve got the right solution for you.

With window tinting, you’re no longer forced to close your blinds and lose your view every time the sun comes out.

Pull them open and enjoy your daytime view without the fear of damaging your home contents. Use your blinds for night time privacy only.

24-hour safety from breaking glass during an earthquake gives you piece of mind.

What is Window Tinting?

Window tinting is the application of an after-market window film onto a glass surface which can reduce the solar heat gain and glare as well as increase the efficiency of the existing glass.

Window films are typically installed on the interior surface of your windows. Rarely do we ever install on the exterior surface of windows except for skylights or curtain walls. This is done primarily to protect the window film from accelerated deterioration caused by external elements and forces.

The warranty period for a residential application is 25 years which includes our glass fracture and seal failure warranty on all windows that are still within their original factory warranty period.

Today’s window films are specifically designed to be installed on today’s most advanced window systems. This includes Low E and Double-Pane windows.

Over and above blocking ordinary visible light, window tinting also blocks dangerous, cancer-causing ultra-violet (UV-A and UV-B) and infra-red (IR) rays, both of which contribute to heat building up inside our homes and businesses.

The only way to effectively regulate solar energy is with a window tint of some kind.

Applied to the interior of your home, our solutions will:

  • Reduce Fading
  • Reduce Glare
  • Reduce Heat Gain
  • Reduce HVAC costs
  • Increase Comfort
  • Increase Daytime Privacy
  • Increase Efficiency
  • Increase Earthquake Safety

Other than using a block out solution, you cannot completely eliminate fading however, window films can provide maximum protection from UV fading without blocking your view.  In fact, window tinting will increase your view by reducing the amount of white light. This is like wearing a pair of polarized sun glasses but for your home.

Seismic Mitigation for Your Home

Living in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia is incredible but we live in a part of the world that hides the silent threat of a disastrous earthquake which could strike at anytime. Prodigy Window Solutions just happens to be an industry leader in the mitigation of glazing.

Another great benefit to window tinting is the increased protection from flying glass during an earthquake. Even if you don’t opt for one of our seismic-safety window films, by simply applying a window tint to your home, you’re protecting yourself and family members from breaking glass and containing the glass fragmentations within the window frames during and after an earthquake.

It’s better to prepare and be proactive rather than be reactive and vulnerable.

Window tinting is no longer the mirrored, shiny type of yesteryears. Today’s technological advancements allow homeowners to receive the same level of protection but with a non-reflective approach utilizing ceramic Nano-technology.

What Causes Fading

Window films reduce fading dramatically by eliminating 99% of the ultra violet light and reducing the amount of IR rays and visible light that penetrate your glass entering your home. If your home has no window tint presently installed on your glass, all your possessions are being damaged by the sun.

If you have any area rugs in your home, go over to them right now and pull up a corner, look at the floor underneath and if there’s a visible difference you need window tinting on your windows.

Increase your daytime privacy

Do you live in a fish bowl?  No seriously, do you feel the need to close your blinds to increase the level of privacy in your home during the day? If you answered yes, then you need window tinting. In fact, most homes being built in Victoria now lack yard space and privacy so window tint is the perfect solution.

Window tints with a VLT of 35% or less can be considered solar privacy solutions. Options available are both reflective and non-reflective with reflective offering the greatest amount of privacy.
